Facts about Bedbugs, Cockroaches and other Pests
Bedbugs:
Scientific name: Cimex lectularius
Identifying Features:
Adult bedbugs are small, brownish insects that typically measure about ¼ inch in length, resembling an apple seed. They have flat, oval bodies and are wingless.
Their colors can change from translucent at birth to reddish-brown to a darker hue after feeding on blood. Bedbugs are known for their distinctive horizontal stripes on their abdomen.
Additionally, bedbug bites often appear as small, red, itchy welts on the skin.
Reproduction:
Bedbugs have a lifespan of about six to twelve months.
They reproduce swiftly, with a female capable of laying up to five eggs daily, or up to 1,800 eggs during her lifetime.
Bedbugs emerge from their protective eggshell within 10-14 days.
German Cockroaches:
Scientific name: Blattella germanica
Identifying Features:
German cockroaches are 1/2-5/8 inch long
Light brown to tan bodies, with two distinctive dark, parallel stripes running lengthwise down the backs
Cockroaches have long antennae, six spiny legs, and winged (although very rarely fly).
Lifespan & Reproduction:
A German Cockroach typically lives about 100-200 days
